Newport, PA — Pennsylvania State Police have identified the two people found dead inside an apartment in Watts Township over the weekend as Kevin Crockett, 35, and Ashley Rice, 38, following what investigators believe was an apparent murder-suicide.
Troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police Newport station were dispatched to an apartment along Susquehanna Trail around 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 8, after receiving reports of a serious incident. Upon entering the residence, officers discovered both individuals deceased, according to state police.
Investigators determined that Ashley Rice died from a gunshot wound. Authorities believe Kevin Crockett later died by suicide after shooting Rice. State police indicated the incident appears to have stemmed from a domestic dispute, though additional details regarding the circumstances have not been released.
The apartment was secured as members of the Pennsylvania State Police Major Case Team assisted the Newport Criminal Investigation Unit with processing the scene, collecting evidence, and conducting interviews. The Perry County Coroner responded to the location, and the Perry County District Attorney’s Office has been consulted as part of the ongoing investigation.
Officials confirmed that next of kin have been notified. No additional information has been released at this time, and authorities have not indicated whether there were prior calls for service involving the residence.
