Daneshia Heller Obituary Fort Lauderdale Homicide: In Loving Memory Of Daneshia Heller, Woman Found Near North Fork Elementary School

A homicide investigation is underway after a woman was found dead Wednesday morning at a Fort Lauderdale apartment complex. Family members have identified the victim as Daneshia Heller.

According to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, officers responded just before 7:30 a.m. to the 1500 block of Southwest Second Street. Upon arrival, they discovered a woman’s body near a dumpster at the Alden Apartments complex, which is located adjacent to North Fork Elementary School.

The man who called 911 told reporters he found the body and said it appeared battered and had been covered with flattened cardboard boxes from the trash. Authorities erected a blue crime scene tent as detectives began processing the area for evidence.

Aerial footage from Sky 10 showed a significant police presence, with roughly 20 to 30 patrol vehicles surrounding the complex. Yellow crime scene tape cordoned off multiple buildings while investigators photographed the scene and collected evidence using forensic kits.

Despite initial reports from the caller, a detective at the scene indicated that the woman’s body did not display obvious visible injuries. Investigators are now working to determine the cause and manner of death and what circumstances led to the discovery.

Police have not released information about a potential suspect or motive. Officials said the victim’s identity will be formally confirmed once next-of-kin notification procedures are complete.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Fort Lauderdale Police Department at 954-828-5700 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.

The investigation remains ongoing.
