In December 2025, San Ysidro High School was placed on a temporary lockdown Wednesday morning following a stabbing inside a classroom, according to authorities.
The San Diego Police Department said a male student entered a classroom around 9 a.m., approached a female student who was seated, and stabbed her multiple times before fleeing the area. School officials immediately initiated lockdown procedures as a precaution.
Police officers arrived on campus within five minutes of the initial report and began searching the school grounds. The injured student was transported to a local hospital, accompanied by school staff and law enforcement officials. Authorities said her injuries were non-life-threatening.
Investigators credited recently installed surveillance cameras with helping identify and locate the suspect. The cameras, which were added to the campus last year, captured the suspect moving through the school.
“We searched the campus, and toward one of the last buildings that we checked, we found the suspect,” SDPD Lt. Cesar Jimenez said during a news conference. “He was taken into custody without incident. He is a student here at San Ysidro High School.”
The lockdown was lifted after the suspect was detained and authorities confirmed there was no further threat to students or staff. The investigation remains ongoing.
